Our Navigator Games team is growing! We’ve partnered with an established publisher, known for their role-playing video game franchises, to bring an animated television series to the mobile universe! As we step into the production phase of our new fantasy game, we are looking to expand upon our existing talent to bring stylized worlds and characters to life through immersive gameplay.

THE POSITION

We are looking for a Technical Designer that is passionate about building and playing mobile RPG games. The successful candidate has a passion for deconstructing and reverse engineering complex game systems (gameplay, metagame, economies, etc.), building and prototyping new and engaging systems, analyzing and balancing game mechanics, and managing more technical aspects of design and data management. This individual should have high technical acumen with scripting or programming and a high proficiency in spreadsheet design and data management.

The Technical Designer is responsible for implementing and balancing game-play content that goes directly into players hands, and evolves as players progress through the game. As part of a multidisciplinary team, this role will contribute to the creation of player experiences, work with the design director on the balancing of the combat, metagame, and larger game economy, and design, prototype, or model new experience as required. The Technical Designer has the expertise to comprehend then organize system complexity and convey it simply through documentation and presentation.

WHAT THE JOB ENTAILS:

  • Combat, Metagame, and Economy spreadsheet modeling and design
  • Implement game-play content using in-house tools based on design specifications.
  • Use player feedback and analytics to tune and balance designs to meet the game’s goals.
  • Read and debug code with engineering input, oversight and support.
  • Streamline and improve design data pipelines and processes.
  • Create and maintain design documentation for areas of responsibility
  • Contribute input on the game’s vision and helps champion that vision to other team members.
  • Work closely with QA on comprehensive test plans and fixing bugs related areas of ownership.
  • Understand and organizes complex systems to simplify and communicate to other departments.
  • Collaborate with design director, animators, engineers, and FX artists to design, prototype, and build new game-play.
  • Identify areas to extend the creation pipeline, including but not limited to building new tools.

HOW WE’LL KNOW YOU’RE A FIT FOR THE JOB:

  • Practical application of computer sciences in-game development.
  • 5+ years experience in video game development in a game-play, engineering, or technical design capacity.
  • Experience scripting or programming with various game engines, such as Unity.
  • Appreciation and understanding of a wide variety of Turn-Based RPG and Hero Collector games in the mobile genre.
  • Shipped a minimum of 2 titles in a commercial capacity.
  • Solid understanding of mechanics design.
  • Self-starter who works well within a creative team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Constructively takes and provide feedback.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

This is a full time contract position with benefits. Our Vancouver Studio is located downtown at 1220 – 1095 West Pender Street, Vancouver, BC V6E 2M6.
